Hi

We want to reinstall Hobbit on a new server but would like to keep the
existing database as we have a long period of information that we would
like to keep(backup) and extend on to. Were are the database/information
stored on the current server and can we migrate it to a new server. Is
there also a way to backup the data periodicly?

Thanks

Just copy the ~hobbit/data/ directory over to the new server (the
data/hist, data/rrd are the most important ones; data/histlogs and
data/hostdata hold the detailed historical logs).

These are all plain files, so they are easily backed up.

Hi Henrik

I have copied the ~hobbit/data files/directories of a Solaris 8
hobbitserver to a Linux RHEL4 server. The history is OK but the graphs
don't show. Can you assist me?

Thanks

I think you may have to convert your rrd files using rrdtool dump, copy
across then use rrdtool restore.

That would indeed be every RRD file.

I knocked together a simple shell script when I did a similar unload/reload (Linux/intel 32 bit to Linux/Intel 64 bit)to walk the directories for any given node, unload, scp, then ssh the reload.

Could I get a copy of that script if possible to see what you've done? I
am migrating my hobbit installs across to new 64-bit boxes at the moment
and noted I couldn't just copy the rrd's so it would be useful to see
what I need to do to convert them.

It hasn't been a problem on some of the smaller boxes as the rrd data
there is only a backup but the main boxes need their trend data
retaining.

Thanks.

Just copy the ~hobbit/data/ directory over to the new server (the
data/hist, data/rrd are the most important ones; data/histlogs and data/hostdata hold the detailed historical logs).

These are all plain files, so they are easily backed up.

OS/X is derived from netbsd, so it should compile fine from source.

The client itself is open source and to my knowledge OS X boasts about being
Unix. Theoretically it should compile without a hitch =)
