"DOWNTIME" in the hosts.cfg, it doesn't work for purple alert prior build 4.3.20 <http://sourceforge.net/projects/xymon/files/Xymon/4.3.20/>; http://xymon.sourceforge.net/xymon/help/manpages/man5/hosts.cfg.5.html Gab On Thu, Oct 22, 2015 at 9:52 PM, Eli via Xymon <xymon at xymon.com> wrote:

Hello, we do this that way, that using a script in cron, at a certain time we copy alerts.cfg to alerts.cfg.work and copy an empty alerts.cfg.empty to alerts.cfg. If the file alerts.cfg is empty, there's no reason for Xymon to do any alerting. After this certain time, we copy the original file alerts.cfg back in place. For my opinion this is a bit easier to do than writing a DOWNTIME statement to all of your nodes that are configured in hosts.cfg Regards Christian Mittelrhein-Verlag GmbH August-Horch-Straße 28 D-56070 Koblenz Verleger und Geschäftsführer: Walterpeter Twer Reg.-Gericht Koblenz HRB 121 Finanzamt Koblenz Str.Nr. 22 65 10 285 2 www.rhein-zeitung.de -----Ursprüngliche Nachricht----- Von: Xymon [mailto:xymon-bounces at xymon.com] Im Auftrag von Eli via Xymon Gesendet: Freitag, 23. I do a similar thing. If we have a xymon storm, like if we lose a WAN link to a major part of our network, we will change the alias of who receives the email to 'nobody'. That way, there is still the paper trail of notifications, but the inbox doesn't get hammered.

I just stop the sendmail daemon. That host isn't for anything else, so that works OK. I clear out the mqueue directories before I start it again. ____ *Note: UMDNJ is now Rutgers-Biomedical and Health Sciences* || \\UTGERS |---------------------*O*--------------------- ||_// Biomedical | Ryan Novosielski - Senior Technologist || \\ and Health | user-46c89e614701@xymon.invalid<mailto:user-46c89e614701@xymon.invalid>- 973/972.0922 (2x0922) || \\ Sciences | OIRT/High Perf & Res Comp - MSB C630, Newark

We do this also. The most important benefit for us is that people who are doing planned work during our regular maintenance interval can watch Xymon to see what's impacted as they work. On Fri, Oct 23, 2015 at 10:19 AM, Root, Paul T <user-76fdb6883669@xymon.invalid>
