group-sorted, group-except 🔗 link

Is there any way to combine the functionality of the group-sorted and
group-except tags. I'm trying to create an alternate page set and would
really like to be able sort a group and eliminate some extraneous tests
that aren't necessary for this view, but it seems that the group directives
are either one or the other.
