If anyone else is interested, I've just submitted some new images for Xymon. I created them so that my manager takes me seriously when I do a presentation on the new monitoring solution. Smilies are amusing but aren't really applicable in a corporate environment.

Click on the download link at: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=2671788&group_id=128058&atid=710490.

Nice.

Only thing I do not like is the blinking 'green-recent'
Green is good, and should not be so annoying... So I just copied the normal green one over it :)
Not quite what I want either, but better than blinking.

I'd suggest having just a difference in brightness (tone) between green.gif and green-recent.gif.
You want to be able to tell the difference, but it does not require attention.

Same thing on my side. The theme is nice, and seems to be more
"corporate compliant" than original theme. But blinking green is
horrible, my xymon page looks like a christmas tree :)

Thanks for your feedback guys, you're not the only ones who mentioned that. I'll change the green one to a static bright LED.

I have just installed a xymon server.
This receives data from local client.
I have an old bb-client on a second server that reports data to it.
I have also installed a xymon client on another server.
I see via tcp-dump on xymon server that it receives data from it, but I can't see the data anywhere. No indication in the logs either.

Any ideas why this data does not come into the xymon server?

I'd suggest raising that as a bug report for the Xymon project as the background image doesn't change shape either.

For the status images, I suppose one could use a combination of round and square LEDs.

Thanks again for your contribution. I don't have many time, so I submit a request, if you can't/don't want to do it, i'll try to take time.
I think the colors are something good, but not enough. We should use a set of icons more easy to interpert :
empty green circle : recent green
full filled green circle : green
blinking red cross (oriented like an X) : recent red
red cross (oriented like an X) : red
blinking purple "?" : recente purple
purple "?" : recente purple
Blue and purple are less important for me. What do you think about this idea ? May be the purple and red difference between recent and non-recent should be other than the one I described, but I can't get time enough to mind about it ;)

I've been jiggling about a bit with the gifs for the round LED theme.
We decided we did not like any blinking green, blue and purple.
But we did want to see difference between stuff that's old and stuff that's recent.

So I darkened the green.gif, and brightened it for green-recent.gif
And did the opposite for blue. Dark blue is recent (and requires no attention), bright is longtime blue(more likely to require attention).

Purple may follow soon, but we didn't see many of those, and I actually had work to get done...

Don't know if attaching them will work, but I'll try.

Thank you!
You are correct. The bb-client is sending with FQDN.
The hobbit-client is reporting only its hostname, because when I created an entry in the bb-hostfile on the server without domainname, it worked.
I found out that this is set by the MACHINEDOTS variable in the ./runclient.sh startup script on the client. So now I use it with domain name again.
Only thing I find a little strange is that I could not see this in any logs on the server.
It should be possible to see the servers that reports with a name that not matches the bb-hosts file. Probably I'm just not looking at the right place....

At my installation the hobbit-ghosts.cgi don't seem to work.
It is probably related to that I compiled xymon someware else, and copied it to my server.
I see that it reffers to the old path even if I can't find this configured anywhere.
I tried to create a link named as the original xymon-homedir to the homedir on the correct one.
Then the error message dissapared, but still it don't list any ghosts. The webpage is all blue (nothing black) and listing: Failed to retrieve ghostlist from server.
I see after now that the hobbitd test have a list of Ghost reports.

Only thing I find a little strange is that I could not see this in any logs on the server.
It should be possible to see the servers that reports with a name that not matches the bb-hosts file. Probably I'm just not looking at the right place....

It's hardcoded in lib/environ.c

this patch fixed it for me (watch line wraps):

Now, if I could only fix the bb-hostsvc.sh script - it segfaults on me,
and I have no idea how to figure out why.

Is there anyone who knows how to do a static compile of the xymon client?
We have some production servers running HP-unix 64bit, and the vendor doesn't want us to install the compile environment and necessary requirements for compiling a client.
We have tried to do a standard compile externally, but after copying, it fails to run due to some missing .so files.

I built a statically linked version. I found that I had to edit the
Makefile in the client directory. LDFLAGS doesn't get passed to the linker.

I built a client RPM for VMware ESX 3.5. It has an older glibc than
Centos 4.7 which was my build environment. The only binary that I needed
to statically link was logfetch since it uses regex functions not in the
earlier library, all the others still worked.

I think I found the solution.
I have not tested the software yet, but the compiling seems good.
The files is much bigger, and they are static linked:
# file bb
bb: ELF 32-bit LSB executable, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV), for GNU/Linux 2.2.5, statically linked, not stripped

The solution was as simple as I first hoped for.
After running the configure script, I edited the Makefile.
Adding the following line before last line:
CFLAGS = -static

The reason why it didn't work the first time is since I had compiled from the same location before, I had to run touch on all .c files.
