Would you help me to create a short but true and impressive list of
sites where Hobbit is installed for middle-sized to large networks?

I can start

1. Washington, DC - Department of Transportation, Federal highway
Administration;

It will help to keep the product here and persuade to install it in
other government agencies. I know some trial installation sites but the
proof is in numbers.

Thank you

When fully implemented, we'll be monitoring close to 400 servers. In
addition, we are monitoring our SAN (SVC and Controllers), and Fabric.
We don't monitor any network equipment, our network engineers use
another SNMP tool to do this.

Would you help me to create a short but true and impressive list of
sites
where Hobbit is installed for middle-sized to large networks?

I can start

1. Washington, DC - Department of Transportation, Federal highway
Administration;

It will help to keep the product here and persuade to install it in
other
government agencies. I know some trial installation sites but the proof
is
in numbers.

Thank you

Dana Corporation - one server so far, 25 Linux servers, 2 console / teststations for HP V class servers and 3 mainframe LPARS with basic tests.

It would be nice Elena, if you collect all these numbers and provide a single document summary at some stage. I could also use something like this to promote hobbit. We currently use HP's ITO aka OpenView now known as VantagePoint for a lot of other servers. I could really save some money with hobbit - I'm sure a lot of us could, and contribute to Henrik's beer & pizza fund.

cc with gcc's CFLAG syntax will failed the the compilation, I opted for

As far as I know, the C-compiler that comes with HP-UX is almost only good for compiling the kernel. However you could buy a HP ANSI c-compiler from HP.

Is there a reason that autoconf is not used ?

I have the book(R1) , interest and some spare time.

It's mostly due to the fact that I have never developed configuration
scripts that use autoconf, so it was easier (i.e. faster) for me to
just work around the various configuration oddities that the Unix
flavours have.

If you look through the Hobbit source, you will actually find very few
places where it has been necessary to write platform-specific code.
Try running
 find . -name "*.[ch]" | \
 xargs egrep "ifdef|ifndef|if defined" | \
 egrep -v "ifndef _.*_H|MEMORY_DEBUG|STANDALONE|BBGEN_|RRDTOOL12|LDAP|BEA2"
and you'll see that it's mostly whether select() is in sys/select.h,
and some code that depends on large file support.

So the benefit of learning and migrating the code to use autoconf has
not been large enough for me to actually go ahead and do it.

But I am always open to patches from people who have an interest in
enhancing Hobbit. So if you would like to do it, please do!

Henrik

I am a autoconf consumer, hoping to be a producer.

Thanks for the pointer here.

I will do it as an autoconf beginner's exercise.

I am using the most recent snapshot dated May 9th.

This message is replicated for all our files that are above and below the threshold:

/oradump/cdp/logs/CDPServer.6.out
File was modified 45 seconds ago - should be <0

client-local.cfg:file:/oradump/cdp/logs/CDPServer.8.out
hobbit-clients.cfg:FILE "%^/oradump/cdp/logs/CDPServer.8.out" yellow mtime<300

We have about 20 files some are above the 300 second threshold and some below, regardless ALL are yellow.

'should be <0', is this a bug, tough requirement though?

 From the documentation:

mtime>MIN.MTIME mtime<MAX.MTIME
checks how long ago the file was last modified (in seconds). E.g. to
check if a file was updated within the past 10 minutes (600
seconds): *mtime<600*. Or to check that a file has NOT been updated
in the past 24 hours: *mtime>86400*.

This makes sense to me, alarm if the file was updated less than 10 minutes ago, alarm if the file has not been updated in 24 hours?
They way it appears to work based on my entry above (mtime<300) is, alarm if mtime>300, or stay green as long as mtime<300. It would be preferable, if it worked like the documentation, I think that reads better.

For the 'msgs' column, is there a way to turn 'Full Log' off so it doesn't make the web page look less than stellar? Or add some wrapping code. I realize I am using the latest alpha, but I know you are looking for some feedback.

We really do appreciate these new columns it will eliminate quite a number of custom scripts on various hosts, thank you.

[hobbit] who uses Hobbit

Would you help me to create a short but true and impressive list of sites where Hobbit is installed for middle-sized to large networks?
 I can start
1. Washington, DC ? Department of Transportation, Federal highway Administration;
It will help to keep the product here and persuade to install it in other government agencies. I know some trial installation sites but the proof is in numbers.
 Thank you
