Dependancy question

Hi,

I am having a problem getting dependencies working. According to the bb-hosts
man page I should be able to do something like the following:

depends=(conn:cr-sw-510-01/conn)

If I understand the man page correctly the above should say that for the
current host the connection service depends on being able to connect to
the cr-sw-510-01. IOW we should be able to ping the cr-sw-510-01 device.

The problem is that if I do the above, I still get the connections turning
red and as a result all of the alerts that go with it.

Can someone please tell me what I am missing?

Regards,

Tom,

Unfortunately the depends directive isn't functioning as documented. Take a look at the router directive instead. It isn't quite as flexible, but should work in your case.

Thanks for the info. I will have a look at the router statment.

Do you have any idea just how broken dependancies are? IOW: are they worth
trying to config for other services?

I would really like to have working dependancies but I want to avoid wasting
time. :-)

Check the archive for this list, a number of people have commented on this issue and have come to the conclusion that it is quite broken. The 'best practice' at this point is to use the router directive.
