I have a central BBDISPLAY server and 3 BBNET servers. Can I replace one
BBNET server with a hobbit NET server without any problems ? So a step
by step transition from BB to Hobbit.

Hi,
I just replaced a BBDISPLAY and BBNET server with a hobbit server.
I don't know if you can set just a BBNET server in hobbit, but I don't think there will be any hint.
As written in the migration guide (http://hobbitmon.sourceforge.net/docs/bb-to-hobbit.html)
the migration from bb is quite easy.
Just copy the log files instead of moving them, so you can switch back to bigbrother in case of trouble.

You can simultaneously run a Hobbit server (very easy to setup if you have a spare box), next to your BBDISPLAY. See http://www.hswn.dk/hobbiton/2005/04/threads.html and look for BBRELAY-threads.
And then there is also: http://www.hswn.dk/hobbit/help/bb-to-hobbit.html

Yes, that should work fine.

Forgot to mention what might be obvious, but still: When you setup a
Hobbit server just to do network testing, make sure you get the
BBDISPLAY settings right in hobbitserver.cfg - the default when you
install Hobbit is to configure it for everything on the same box.

Also, you should edit the hobbitlaunch.cfg file and disable everything
except the network test task.

Ups didn't quite go as expected.

I disabled everything in hobbitlaunch.cfg except bbnet and bbretest. Had to rem out NEEDS hobbitd or the bbnet service did not start at all. Also I entered IPs for BBDISPLAY etc

Am running bbproxy on the same box so enabled this in hobbitlaunch also

However the proxy started but the bbnet test ran once i think. If I enable the hobbitd then I obviously get an error about the port. Does bbnet need hobbitd in my case ?

Hobbit runs on the same port 'tcp/1984) than bigbrother. Did you stop the bb server ?

Yes I did, the bbproxy runs on this port and this is why I am wondering if I can run bbproxy together with hobbit bbnet service.

In fact I spoke to soon. It works fine.

Just have to REM out the NEEDS clause for bbnet and then it works.
