Note: Hobbit 4.2 release planned for Thursday Aug. 10.

Unless some major showstopper arrives within 24 hours, the 4.2 release will be available Thursday morning around 8 AM UTC. In other words, this is your last chance to report bugs that must be fixed before the final release. The "ps" handling bugs should all be fixed now in the latest snapshot and all-in-one patch (dated 2006-08-08 21:13 UTC). A list of the bugs that have been fixed during the RC testing can be found at the beta-patches page, http://www.hswn.dk/hobbitsw/betapatches/ I would like to express my sincere admiration and thanks to the people who have taken the trouble of testing Hobbit for this release; your input and help in troubleshooting the problems has really made this release a lot better than it was 4 weeks ago. Thanks, Henrik

I will try to squeeze in time to test the "duplicate data" error in my RRD data. I do not yet have the latest snapshot + all-in-1... (how to we get the snapshot and all in 1?) Kent C. Brodie - user-da7f7d5174c0@xymon.invalid Department of Physiology Medical College of Wisconsin (XXX) XXX-XXXX

Is anyone else unable to cleanly apply the allinone.patch (as of
2006-08-08 21:13 UTC) to the RC-20060721 tarball? It looks like half
the patch is reversed, getting a lot of "Reversed (or previously
applied) patch detected" errors for files in ./docs/manpages/

I just installed today's snapshot on my home test machine, and the hobbit server itself is getting occasional "permission denied" errors when checking the log files (/var/log/messages, maillog). This is running on Fedora Core 2. I installed the server over the existing installation as root. I'm just not sure if it's a problem with the snapshot, or something else entirely. Thought I'd mention it before thursday's release, though...

Snapshots are at http://www.hswn.dk/beta/ - the all-in-one patch can be found at http://www.hswn.dk/hobbitsw/betapatches/ The all-in-one patch is against the 20060712 RC release. All of these can also be found from the demo site webpage at http://www.hswn.dk/hobbit/ Regards, Henrik

Humm - how did that happen ... no idea really. It has no effect on the code, though, since it only affects the HTML versions of the man-pages. If in doubt, grab the snapshot from http://www.hswn.dk/beta/ Henrik

Hi Henrik
some items (PORT, FILE, DIR, etc.) described in
~server/etc/client-local.cfg are not described in
~client/etc/localclient.cfg
Maybe ~client/etc/localclient.cfg should be updated ?
Another thing, also related to the "local configuration mode" : in the
"files" or "msgs" columns, if I click on a file or directory name, I get
"Status not available", instead of this for example :
[file:/var/log/apache2/hswn.log]
type:100000 (file)
mode:644 (-rw-r--r--)
linkcount:1
owner:0 (root)
group:4 (adm)
size:49976209
clock:1155111336 (2006/08/09-10:15:36)
atime:1155111156 (2006/08/09-10:12:36)
ctime:1155111335 (2006/08/09-10:15:35)
mtime:1155111335 (2006/08/09-10:15:35)
Are these informations available in "local configuration mode" ?
Thanks in advance, and congratulations for this great release !

It probably should, yes. I'll get that done.

No. When you use the local configuration mode, the status messages are generated on the local client, and the data used for the detailed display never arrive on the Hobbit server. I'll remove the links when you're running in local mode. Regards, Henrik

it could be a coincidence that, depends on your set-up, the permission on /var/log/messages|maillog may not be preserved after log-rotation (04:00 weekly). by default, these two logs don't allow user/group 'hobbit' to read.

The alert was acknowledged yesterday (07:47 2006-08-09) but the status remains red. The /var/adm/messages was not updated by the system since last error reported at Aug 9 13:44:06: could this explain this issue?
