Jeff,

Are you saying that on your problem clients, the command hangs and so the
~/client/tmp/msg.<hostname>.txt file doesn't get updated or that it fails to
be updated at the server end?

Subject:	[hobbit] AIX 4.3.3 going purple on netstat test after 3-5
days

All,

I sent an earlier message about both 4.2.0 and 4.2.0 with the latest
patches going totally purple after 3-5 days. The process hobbit gets
hung up on is netstat -an | grep ^tcp

I have the following settings applied on the server:
MAXMSG_CLIENT="900000"
MAXMSG_STATUS="900000"
MAXMSG_STACHG="900000"
MAXLINE_STACHG="900000"

I have 4 AIX 4.3.3 clients with this "going purple" problem, with no
errors in any logs that I can find.

Any help would be apprieciated.

Thanks,
Jeff

The ~client/tmp/msg.<hostname>.txt file doesn't get updated.

I just looked at the graph, and it appears that the command hung for 5
hours, came back for 13 hours, and hung again (has been hung for 4
hours)

Well, if the client gets "stuck" while collecting the data it sends to
Hobbit, then as far as Hobbit is concerned there are no data for this
host - which is what the "purple" status is really telling you.

So the question is: Why does "netstat -an" stall like that? I'm not in
any way an AIX expert, but it sounds like a buggy "netstat" to me ...

Thats along the lines of what I was thinking a little while after I sent that.
Im going to try an OS patch and see if that fixes it.
