Decommissioned servers page and other features.

Hi all

I have been asked for some odd features in the past, but I think these top the lot.

After decommissoning a server, how can we make the data and graphs available for a period of time through the Hobbit interface.
The idea being that we can compare new server loads, performance and quirks with the old, if we need to.
(Keep in mind, the actual server will be long gone, we just want access to the rrd graphs and history)
I would like to create a subpage with decommissioned servers, have everything remain green, and have historic data viewable?

Now for the other request.
Assuming the correctness of the following concept
Server_Utilisation=f(CPU utilisation,memory usage)
Where f() is not clearly defined yet, can we use hobbit to generate a report of most utilised and least utilised servers?
Yes, this does sound like something only a PHB could come up with.

Cheers
    Vernon

If you can live with them not being green, why don't you just disable
all tests on the server ? They'll show up blue, but you will still have
access to all historical data, graphs etc.
Assuming the correctness of the following concept
Server_Utilisation=3Df(CPU utilisation,memory usage)

t of most utilised and least utilised servers?
You'd have to do some data extraction from the rrd files
(that's the only place historical performance data is stored),
and then apply your magical f() function to those data.

A slightly different approach is to use the "Metrics" report in Hobbit
and look at only the memory- and cpu-utilisation for a group of
hosts. It won't give you a report, but it may give you a hint of what
servers to look at.

Can someone tell me ... if I disable a test, but don't check the "disable until OK" tickbox does the test still run? I assume if the tickbox is checked the test will run otherwise it will never know when it is OK.

Another thing if I use the $BBHOME/bin/bb $BBDISP 'disable host.test time' command - can I pass it a parameter to tell it to disable till OK?

According to my experience, the test will still run.
Also the RRD graphs will still be updated, but there will be no alarms

Disabled tests still run, they just don't trigger alerts.

I still seem to have a problem doing a disable until OK - I have a test script that tries to run the following command:
$BBHOME/bin/bbcmd $BBHOME/bin/bb xx.xx.xx.xx 'disable device-hostname.COLUMN -1 Test disabled by script' ... but it fails to work.

If I substitute the -1 for 20 it works fine. The other rather odd thing is I do a "set -x" in the script and cut-and-paste the line from my logfile onto the command line, the line with the -1 works perfectly. Running the bb command with the --debug option gives identical results for both -1 and 20 ... any ideas?

Maybe the - before the -1 needs escaping. Seems a little odd because you
have it in quotes already, so just a thought...
