Let's say I have 300 servers, and the hobbit home directory is common
among them all (NFS or SAN mount). Will this work?

It appears that it might (as most of the dynamic files have the hostname
as part of their filename), as long as server-side configuration was used.

It should work. That was the reason behind making the client files use
the client hostname as part of the filename.
