trying to check apt and dnsreg

I am running Xymon 4.3.0-0.beta2.

When I installed the package from apt-get it automatically was checking
apt status, which I liked it a lot. I did some research and that is part
of the client.

To have the latest version I downloaded the source code and I compiled
it on my server (Ubuntu 9.04), but I can get apt to work now. I even
downloaded the xymon-client. Can anyone tell me how to get the apt
(updates) check on?

Also, I was checking the demo and I saw that xymon(hobbit) can check
dnsreg to see if a domain is not expired, but I haven't found
information on how to add the check.

They are both probably easy problems J

Hi,

You can get hobbit-plugins package here. You can just extract the apt
plugin.

No, it is part of the debian package, and (AFAIK) not published separately (like many other parts of the debian package).

Maybe the debian maintainer would like to consider pushing more of his changes upstream ....

Awesome. I just run apt-get install hobbit-plugins and now it checks the apt status. I only had installed the xymon-plugins. I had formatted that machine so many times that I lost track of what was installed. (I had some weird problems with likewise)
Since the APT is resolved, does anyone know how I can do dnsreg like how it is done at the bottom of this page
http://www.hswn.dk/hobbit/services/services.html
We have about 30 domains, so I think it is really neat that hobbit can check the status of the registration.

So I guess no one has the answer about why apt shows yellow for packages not installed from apt, and what can I do about it?
Or about the dnsreg. I would really like to get dnsreg checks working.

The apt check that comes with the hobbit pluggins shows yellow warning for packages not installed with apt-get. Since I have about 7 packages that I installed manually, it is always in a yellow state.
I have found some info in the archives
http://www.hswn.dk/hobbiton/2009/05/msg00018.html
but it still shows as yellow for apt.

As for dnsreg, in the hobbit demo page in the services, at the bottom
http://www.hswn.dk/hobbit/services/services.html
you can see the group Domains.
This are dnsreg checks, where it checks the status of the domain registration and when they are about to expire. We have about 27 domains, so it would be extremely helpful for me, but I just having been able to get them to work.

I found a workaround for apt
At line 158 in /usr/lib/hobbit/client/ext
I changed to be pkgreport('Packages not installed from apt repositories', 'green', @no_repo);
instead of pkgreport('Packages not installed from apt repositories', 'yellow', @no_repo);
this way still reports the packages installed manually, but it won't show as yellow for them.

I still haven't been able to figure out how to monitor domain registration however (dnsreg)
