problems starting hobbit server

Greetings, Recently I did a massive system upgrade, and now whenever I try to start my hobbit server I get the following error in the hobbitd.log file 2005-12-19 10:00:00 Setup complete 2005-12-19 10:00:00 Fatal error in select: Bad file descriptor And it just keeps repeating. Does anyone know what might have broke hobbit or what I have to do to fix the error? Thanks, Adam

Select is a socket call used to set up a listener. You say you did a massive upgrade, if you built Hobbit from source, did you rebuild it?

Any odd messages in the hobbitlaunch.log file ? This gets the error messages from the very early startup-phase of hobbitd. This error is really one of those "it-cannot-happen" errors. Meaning that either the error-message is bogus, or something very weird is going on. Just in case, did you recompile Hobbit after the upgrade, to make sure the run-time libraries etc. are in sync with your new system ? Henrik

Never mind - what happened was during my upgrade, my udev file did not get updated correctly so my /dev/random, /dev/urandom and /dev/null files did not have the correct file permissions - all is fixed now Thanks, Adam

Subject: [hobbit] problems starting hobbit server
Greetings,
Recently I did a massive system upgrade, and now whenever I try to start
my hobbit server I get the following error in the hobbitd.log file
2005-12-19 10:00:00 Setup complete
2005-12-19 10:00:00 Fatal error in select: Bad file descriptor
And it just keeps repeating.
Does anyone know what might have broke hobbit or what I have to do to
fix the error?
Thanks,
Adam

Yes, I did rebuild hobbit after the upgrade (I took the same opportunity to upgrade hobbit to the newest snapshot)... It is all working now -- it was a file permissions problem in /dev Thanks to all of you who responded so quickly Adam
