hi,
I am new to Hobbit and very glad for it, however after several days
trial still have some annoying problems. I would like to get some tips on debugging div. processes as problems obviously are related to the differences between computers (hobbit installation was identical within family).

1.
some Linux clients not reporting data.
Clients are identical Linux MAndrakes (ok: suppose to be identical) - and some of them are not reporting to the server as there were not client processes running.
Display page shows only green diamonds for conn, info, trends - and "-"
for other. I can't find any help in log files neither at server nor at client.
At client in hobbitclient.log a lot of lines:
  "error parsing /proc/net/snmp: Success
  "TERM environment variable not set."
The same lines however are on succesful clients!

2.
"Client data" link is missing for some hobbit clients (sparc/Solaris8,9)

3.
"History" link for sparc clients says "Cannot open history file".
hobbitd_history is running.
Again, no help from log files.

4.
I would be able to send sms in case of serious problems - what basic software should I have to manage that?

Thanks in advance for help

Longina

Your user running Apache, probably apache, can not get into /root or it's
subdirectories.

Do not put www files in /root - use /var/www/html or something.

Probably true. It's quite likely not a good idea to install under
/root. Would suggest you perhaps made a new user account (xymon), with
a home directory, say /home/xymon, and installed there.

Also, your specific error is because you do not have the 'alias' module
in your Apache configuration. Check /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf for
something like:
LoadModule alias_module modules/mod_alias.so
This should be there and not be commented out.

Hi,

Your error messages is 100% Apache HTTPd related. I think you should ask help in concerned forums/IRC channels/mailing list.

In my case, I'm running HTTPd too, and I activate the modules by linking (symbolic link is enough, no need hard link) the appropriate modules from mods-available to mods-enabled.
For example :
'ls -la /etc/apache/mods-enabled/alias*'
 gives me the following :
alias.conf -> ../mods-available/alias.conf
alias.load -> ../mods-available/alias.load

So, HTTPd loads the modules at startup. No need to restart the daemon, just need to graceful it :
'apachectl graceful'

Harsha

Firstly, let me suggest that future requests for help include a little more
information both in the body and in the subject of your email. A good
guide for submitting requests for assistance that are more likely to be
answered is here:

There are installation instructions on the xymon.org webpage under "Help"
-> "Installing Xymon"? There are also some brief instructions in the README
file that comes with the source code.

What do you mean by "proper"?

Cheers
