Feature request/suggestions welcome - tracking ACK's
list Elizabeth Schwartz
Problem: - a noc person ACK's a yellow for 24 hours and puts information into the ACK about actions taken. When the ACK expires, the information is lost (at least in the GUI) Suggestion: -be able to find whether an alert has been ack'ed previously, see the ACK history, by clicking on the alert -have ACKs show up in history Alternative suggestion -be able to look up ACK's in the event history report I'm trying to train people to ACK instead of signing out but the loss of info is a real problem What are other people doing? thanks Betsy

Yes, true, but it's not accessible without shell access to the server. The NOC guys have no way to see whether a yellow was previously ACK'ed and if so what was done about it. On Thu, Jun 2, 2011 at 6:30 PM, Asif Iqbal <user-6f4b51ac2a40@xymon.invalid> wrote:

The problem should really be solved, but for the time being you could make a softlink to the file for viewing for your NOC. On Jun 2, 2011 7:59 PM, "Elizabeth Schwartz" <user-c61747246f66@xymon.invalid>

You could use the "notes" feature of xymon and create a link to the log file for anyone on a web browser to view without giving them access to the server.

Not everybody has webmin. I know I don't. Attached is a quick and dirty attempt at a temporary solution. It can be kicked off from tasks.cfg: [xymon_ack.sh] ENVFILE /home/xymon/server/etc/xymonserver.cfg NEEDS xymond CMD /home/xymon/server/ext/xymon_ack.sh LOGFILE $XYMONSERVERLOGS/xymon_ack.log INTERVAL 1m It uses tclsh to convert the epoch time to something more readable. That could use a bit more work... :) The ack messages are added to the hosts notes file so you can click through the name to get to it. If you already use the notes files for something else, like actual system notes, just put the acks somewhere else and link to it from the notes file.
