Hi Stefan,

I've downloaded 0.1.1, and am getting the Server 500 error on Apache,
"The server encountered an internal error and was unable to complete
your request.

Error message:

Premature end of script headers: testalarm.sh"

I looked on the apache web site regarding this error, and it says to try
to run this from the command line. When I do, I get ": bad interpreter:
No such file or directory".

I'm not sure what info you need from me to help me to help you figure
this out J

I'm running OpenSuSE 10.0.

Thanks,

Al

One thing you can do since they're shell scripts is to add 'set -x' to the script (2nd line would work) or run the script on the command line like 'sh -x testalarm.sh'.

what do this command i never heard about "set -x" should i inklude it on

Hi,
do you have given them rights for executing (for webserver)?

can you try this simple script?

#!/bin/sh
echo "content-type: text/html"
echo ""
echo "Script runs!"
exit 0

thx for testing.

"set -x" is useful for debugging shell scripts. It tells the shell to
print out everything it does, so you probably *don't* want to include
it normally. "set +x" turns debugging off again. So, when part of a
script misbehaves you can bracket it with "set -x" & "set +x" to see
what's actually happening.

It's a debug mode if you will... It shows you what the script is doing.
Here's an example with one of the scripts.

sh -x edit_files.sh

' echo 'content-type: text/html

content-type: text/html

+ echo $'\r'

++ +%s

edit_files.sh: line 12: +%s: command not found

' THIS_TITLE='Edit Configs

+ HOBBIT_SERVER_CFG=$'../server/etc/hobbitserver.cfg\r'

+ $'\r'

: command not found 23:

+ FILEX=(/etc/bb-hosts /etc/hobbit-alerts.cfg /etc/hobbitgraph.cfg
/etc/hobbitlaunch.cfg /etc/hobbitserver.cfg)

+ $'\r'

: command not found 26:

OK - I had this issue. Basically, these scripts seem to have been edited
on a windows box, as so have the DOS style ^M at the end of each line.
This will need to be removed for the scripts to run on a UNIX box. You
can use a utility called "dos2unix" to convert all the scripts.

Cheers

Hobbit (4.2 Solaris9) made the whole disk partition out of game because of "out of inodes" fail. Disk partition is 3.8Gb , used 1.7 Gb, available 2.1Gb. The directory /opt/hobbit/data/histlogs/ keeps huge amount of historical data about each hobbit client.
In my configuration I keep to the default values for history events.
What shall I look after, and which variables should be tuned to avoid that fail in the future? regards

I'm rusty on solaris, but on Linux you can use a df -i to check the inode usage on the file systems. At one time I hacked out a quick inode.sh script to monitor for this condition after this same situation happened to me. If I locate it I can send it to you or the list. If you are going to build a file system for the hobbit history logs in the future, you can tune the file system when creating it to create more inodes than the ext3 or ufs default. I think when this happened to me I just stopped hobbit, moved the histlogs to a file system with a lot of inodes free and just soft linked it to get things working again. HTH.

Yes i develop it under Windows ( ;-( ), but i have throw it through dos2unix, because there was a problem in the past. Do you get any Massages (Errors, notices, etc).

At this Point i can only say, if you set run permissons (for Webserver) on the scripts. It's a liddle bit difficult to say way it not works from here ;-)

thx a lot for testing, if i found out why it not work you get an update.

Hi,
quoted from Stefan Freisler
OK - I had this issue. Basically, these scripts seem to have been edited
on a windows box, as so have the DOS style ^M at the end of each line.
This will need to be removed for the scripts to run on a UNIX box. You
can use a utility called "dos2unix" to convert all the scripts.
are you shure? before i mad my packets i hade used dos2unix, because there was a problem too in the past and since than i made this everytime.

Can it be that my ftp-client made this fault?

<my-opinion>

Ftp is a horrible protocol for doing this kind of thing :(

</my-opinion>

As far as i can tell, this is actually a function of the FTP server. I
have even seen this issue on installation CD's for UNIX type software.

Since I have seen this in the past, I had a quick check and found a way
to fix. NOt really sure how you can stop this from happening though.

Hobbit never deletes history-logs by itself. You can use the
"trimhistory" utility to remove old logfiles, or you can just setup a
simple "find /home/hobbit/data/histlogs -mtime +90 | xargs rm" cronjob
to wipe all history-logs older than 90 days (or whatever you prefer).

I think solaris (by default) doesn't allocate nearly enough inodes as
(for example) ext3 inder linux. I recall dealing with inode issues
under solaris 6 and 7 for an email server. I agree- a royal pain......

On my system, a redhat box monitoring 122 servers and with nearly
150,000 history files, looks like this:

Filesystem Inodes IUsed IFree IUse% Mounted on
/dev/sda5 2562240 22092 2540148 1% /
/dev/sda1 127744 86 127658 1% /boot
none 129323 1 129322 1% /dev/shm

Hi !
and Happy New Year to everybody !

This afternoon we've seen an abnormal size for the msg.txt file in client directory. Here is output :

PSP100 /opt/hobbit/client/tmp>ll
total 934872
-rw-r--r-- 1 root hobbit 0 Jan 11 10:43 hobbit_vmstat.PSP100.50948

PSP100 /opt/hobbit/client/tmp>> msg.PSP100.txt.86546

As you can see a file reached 500M in size !! You could notice that some files were created by 'root'. Well... it's not good 'cause that meaned someone in my team launched Hobbit with this account ! Anyway, it's not the first time I see such size for this file on the machine. How may I prevent that ?

Sincerly,

Thomas
