Using '.default.' in hosts.cfg

Hello,

Using Xymon 4.3.7 I want to add a '.default.' entry to my hosts.cfg
file, but am unsure of its syntax. The man page for hosts.cfg says
'...you can define a host name ".default." and put...'.

so does that mean:

   .default. noclear
or
   127.0.0.1 .default. noclear

What do I enter as the IP address, or can it be anything or can it be
left out completely?

The man page is not clear on this, so perhaps a full example would help?

Thanks,

John.

It seems it does require an IP address (I'm using 0.0.0.0), and that it
must be the first entry in the hosts.cfg file.

It seems it does require an IP address (I'm using 0.0.0.0), and that it

as you've worked out, you need an address of 0.0.0.0

You can have as many .default. lines as you wish - it simply changes the
active defaults for subsequently listed hosts.

The following example will propagate status from the subpage to the next
level for 'someprodhost' - the status of 'somedevhost' tests will be
visible on the page, but will not propagate.

page dev Development
0.0.0.0 .default. # NOPROPRED:* NOPROPYELLOW:*
1.1.1.1 somedevhost # http://whatever ntp
0.0.0.0 .default. #
1.1.1.2 someprodhost # http://whatever ntp

From the man page:

DEFAULT HOST
If you have certain tags that you want to apply to all hosts, you can
define a host name ".default." and put the tags on that host. Note
that per-host definitions will override the default ones.

NOTE: The ".default." host entry will only accept the following
tags - others are silently ignored: NOCOLUMNS, COMMENT, DESCR, CLASS,
dialup, testip, nobb2, nodisp, noinfo, notrends, TRENDS, NOPROPRED,
NOPROPYELLOW, NOPROPPURPLE, NOPROPACK, REPORTTIME, WARNPCT, NET,
noclear, nosslcert, ssldays, DOWNTIME, depends, noping, noconn,
trace, notrace, HIDEHTTP, browser, pulldata.
Specifically, note that network tests, "badTEST" settings, and alternate
pageset relations cannot be listed on the ".default." host.
