If things go well this holiday weekend, 4.4-alpha1 should release Monday
or Tuesday. It's been delayed primarily by refactoring that was needed in
some of the patches, and more time needed to integrate the changes done
for compression with the changes committed for TLS/SSL support, which was
why the commit activity seemed to stop. (I may commit un-refactored code
first and make modifications as time goes on.)

The process for this will be the typical:
alpha - not feature complete, not tuned
beta - mostly feature complete, tuning and refactoring based on feedback
release candidates - bug fixes and documentation, final tuning

I would like to see 4.4 released within the next 45d, but this will depend
on what additional issues surface, especially in regards to tuning and
packaging.
