BBWIN 64 Bit
list Michael S. Fisher
Hi All, I have yet to find some useful docs that say whether or not BBWIN will work for 64bit machines... I have the clients configrued correctly and bb-hosts setup correctly but clients are not reporting and no ghost clients exist. Does it work on x64? Thanks.
list Raymond Storer
I have it configured and running on both Server 2003 R2 x64 and Server 2008 x64 without issue. Don't forget to allow it through the Windows (other vendor?) Firewall Ray

into the bbwin config file, restarted the service, but still nothing to
report...

It runs fine the only issue I have come across is making sure your external scripts are 32/64 bit compliant. Depending upon how they are launched they will run in either a 32 or 64 bit environment. As an example the BBWin registry entries will be in different spots for the 32 or 64 bit versions of the interpreters. Regards Graeme

you need to set the hostname in the registry then restart the bbwin. the hostname can be modified in HKLM\Software\BBWin.

There is no reg key under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\\BBWin The reg key for x64 is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\BBWin and I have modified the hostname to match the host name in bb-hosts Restarted service and still no reporting..;) Banging my head against a wall because all of you say it works...

Is there anything appearing in ghost clients on the server?

Nope...ghost clients are empty and nothing is being reported from the clients... I have bb-hosts setup with the host name and ip so BB is doing its conn tests and other things like !ftp and !telnet but no client data is being reported...

My immediate thought is a name resolution problem on the client. Can you ping from the client to the Xymon server using the same server name as in the BBWin config file.

Can you ping? Is there a firewall in the way? To state the obvious either something is stopping the data being generated, getting out or it is getting lost along the way. Is it possible it has something to do with the rights of the account the service is running under? To narrow it down further may need to put sniffer on it to have a look at the packets themselves. Hope this helps

Could you please include the message you are responding to so we know what you actually are responding to? Did you read my guide at http://system.keilir.net/windows.html ? It explains exactly what you need to do get it working on 64bit windows (tested on server 2003 and 2008)

It is actually very refreshing to read messages that are terse, exact and to the point. There was absolutely no need for the user to resend all the messages that already have been sent in this thread and that may or may not have been relevant to the users text. It is simply common sense to cut away irrelevant sections of the previous messages, and to include only the parts that are relevant to ones own message. Also what does the following type of posting actually do for the reader: A: Because people read from top to bottom. Q: Why is top posting bad? Best regards, -- Kindest Regards, Anna Jonna Ármannsdóttir, %& A: Because people read from top to bottom. Unix System Aministration, Computing Services, %& Q: Why is top posting bad?
