I've had the same issue with the cluster.exe sending alerts in html but not including the <html> tag so it shows up like yours does. You can script it and have it send in html but it will attach a .bin file which is more of a pain than just reading between the tags imo.

Maybe someone else has a solution?

If you need html mail for some reason then this is probably no going to help, but it works fine for me. This also removes the 'who are we paging' from the info pages. I use SCRIPT and call an external file, some of the alerts are terse, others can contain more detail. (I'm still on 4.2.0 :)

Examples below.

alert config:
PAGE=%^example/(moo|foo) SERVICE=conn COLOR=red DURATION>2m
SCRIPT $alertdir/page-primary.sh page-web-prim FORMAT=sms REPEAT=15m

page-primary.sh
#!/bin/bash

/bin/mail -s "$BBHOSTSVC" user-e13f0c5b5222@xymon.invalid < /dev/null

Doesn't the format=sms strip the subject from the email?
From the hobbit internals perspective I can't really answer that. This cludge is perhaps somewhat outside of the way hobbit is designed to work, but it's worked fine for our team for many moons. When a server goes offline I generally don't need/want anything other than a short alert which says servername.conn. The '/bin/mail -s' line below provides that detail in the subject line.

I use a custom script to send emails and I had that problem as well. What I
do prior to sending the email via the custom script is parse out the HTML
using sed. It replaces the <BR> tag with a newline and removes all other
items that are in the format "<anything>".

BBALPHAMSG=`echo -e "$BBALPHAMSG" | sed -e 's/<BR[^>]*>/\n/'g -e

Thank you! That works pretty well and makes the text much more readable. I added a dash to replace the tags since having nothing to replace it left the text all jumbled together, but a space for some reason stripped the leading line and removed my high priority tags for the email.

Thanks!
