Greetings,

Here's the setup, trying to test Hobbit as a replacement for the main BB
server. As a simple test, I have created a bb-hosts entry for a
non-existing server with the following rule in the hobbit-alerts.cfg:

HOST=testserver03.domain.com SERVICE=conn
	MAIL user-e63f4e3fcb43@xymon.invalid REPEAT=10 RECOVERED

Thats it...The conn icon on the Hobbit status page is red, but I never
receive a page to my email address.

Any idea?

Also, posted a question earlier about mail groupings, if I have more
than one recipient, are the comma separated or does that require a new
MAIL line per recipient?

I.E. will MAIL user-29ad0d065d6a@xymon.invalid user-1c05f9bd9f76@xymon.invalid user-236b064986cc@xymon.invalid REPEAT=10
RECOVERED work?

Check in ~/hobbit/data/acks/notifications.log to see if hobbit tried to send
a message. It may be a problem w/ your mail server.

I would like to do a "live" test of hobbit, by sending an extra copy of all my bblient status messages to a hobbit server I have setup. What way would you recommend to do this? I'm thinking that, on my bbserver, I can add the BBRELAY option to its bb-hosts to foward status messages to hobbit. Any advise is appeciated.

I set one up the same way you did, and I didn't get paged. I think maybe it
has to be green first, then go to red to send a page.

Try this. Create a virtual IP (using ifconfig) corresponding to the IP you
gave testserver03 in your bb-hosts file. Let the conn icon go green. Wait
3 or 4 minutes. Remove (or change) the virtual IP.
That's how I've been testing notification.

I think you're right, and it's a behaviour that is both confusing and
incorrect. In other words, it has to get fixed.

As I said earlier, the alert module has had the least amount of
testing, so I'm very happy that bug-reports are beginning to appear
about it. I think the rest of Hobbit is in pretty good shape now, with
beta-5 plus the patch I sent out yesterday. But I really want the
alert module to have some thorough testing before a release. That is
my main focus right now.

Thanks,
Henrik

Well, that hasn't worked. the new server test did go green and I waited
for a few polling intervals, then I downed the interface and it did
indeed go red.. all ok so far...but never have I received a page!
strange... For the time being, my live BB server handles all alerts
until I can get this sorted out. I have the bbrelay option set so I can
still test hobbit...
