Xymon 4.3.0 released
list Henrik Størner
I am pleased to announce the release of version 4.3.0 of the Xymon monitoring software.
The previous release happened two years ago, so I can understand why people started worrying if Xymon was dead. Fortunately, that is not the case - and thanks for being so patient with this release.
I would like to thank everyone involved in the development - those who have contributed code and patches, as well as all of the users who took time to report bugs, make suggestions for improvements or fix documentation.
Also, a big "Thank You" should be given to the people here on the Xymon mailing list, who take time off from their active admin duties to help answer questions from newbies and experts alike. Without you, Xymon would never have become as popular as it is.
Xymon 4.3.0 is available from Sourceforge at
https://sourceforge.net/projects/xymon/
The sourcecode file is currently being mirrored out from the master sf.net site, but should be available soon. For verification, the xymon-4.3.0.tar.gz file should look like this:
Size: 2679880 bytes
MD5: 5972786d7102403674c12d97380d00e1
SHA-1: 839a6d64e53101fa3e4381ce17a669292c691ebd
Regards,
Henrik

Excellent, thanks. I had an odd issue that was covered a while back occur on my install; I'd never altered the hostsvc_header file to my recollection, but the menu bar simply didn't appear on many subpages, and quite often the left-gradient would repeat across the page. As per the old thread (recopied below), I moved /home/xymon/server/web/ elsewhere, ran another make install, and all now seems to be well. ---- I never touched these files myself. I just renamed web to web.old and did a reinstall. Fixed everything. Thanks Henrik! Check that your installation uses the ~xymon/server/web/hostsvc_header from the RC1 files. If you have modified this file yourself, then it won't be updated when you do the upgrade. Regards, Henrik

So it would appear that another script is missing from the final release as well. In step 5 from the upgrade document: ~hobbit/server/bin/bbcmd ./build/upgrade430.sh cannot be performed because the upgrade430.sh script does not exist. It appears that there is yet some work to be done in the creation of a complete tarball for upgrade purposes. :( --jms

I haven't run the upgrade script myself yet, but there is definitely a build/upgrade430.sh in the tarball I downloaded earlier today. (The upgrade document is docs/upgrade-to-430.txt, not docs/upgrading-to-430.txt as I originally said.) Did you download from http://sourceforge.net/projects/xymon/files/Xymon/4.3.0/xymon-4.3.0.tar.gz/download ? Seems unlikely, but maybe you're getting a bad mirror or something...?

So it would appear that another script is missing from the final release as well.
In step 5 from the upgrade document:
~hobbit/server/bin/bbcmd ./build/upgrade430.sh
cannot be performed because the upgrade430.sh script does not exist.
It appears that there is yet some work to be done in the creation of a complete tarball for upgrade purposes.

Xymon 4.3.0 is available from Sourceforge at https://sourceforge.net/projects/xymon/ The sourcecode file is currently being mirrored out from the master sf.net site, but should be available soon. For verification, the xymon-4.3.0.tar.gz file should look like this: Size: 2679880 bytes MD5: 5972786d7102403674c12d97380d00e1 SHA-1: 839a6d64e53101fa3e4381ce17a669292c691ebd Regards, Henrik PS: Bug reports to xymon at xymon.com, please!

I'm beginning to believe there is an erroneous tarball on a mirror out there somewhere. I just went to Sourceforge for the first time, downloaded 4.3.0 for the first time, created an empty directory for the file, and extracted it. The upgrade document AND the upgrade shell script are both missing. I am going to store that file off and re-download from SF.

First hint: initial archive extracted to a directory named: 4.3.0 The new file extracts to xymon-4.3.0. It appears we have a mirror with a rogue archive. How would we go about making sure that file is gone, gone, gone? (Thanks everyone.)

I downloaded the file from all 25 mirrors that Sourceforge lists when I use the "try another mirror" link. They all appeared OK - same MD5 checksum as the original. Regards, Henrik

I had the same problem - not really sure why either but by rerunning the make-install a 2nd time worked for me. Two other things that I have noticed: - in server/bin/xymon.sh reload looks for /home/xymon/logs/xymond.pid which doesn't exist and all other modes (restart, etc) look for /home/xymon/logs/xymonlaunch.pid. There is no running xymond on my server. - I tried this during a previous upgrade attempt (maybe I will try it again). I went through server/bin, server/etc, etc. and removed the remaining files and links that started with bb* or hobbit* which resulted in menu items out of place, non-functioning buttons, and just generally a broken Xymon website.
----
I never touched these files myself. I just renamed web to web.old and did a reinstall. Fixed everything.
Thanks Henrik!

"reload" needs to signal xymond that it must pick up the new config, so it is correct to send a SIGHUP to xymond. xymonlaunch.pid should exist, but it requires that "xymonlaunch" is started with the "--pidfile=FILENAME" option. Regards, Henrik
