I would like to know if there is a current or forthcoming hobbit client
for Windows Server 2008 (32bit & 64 bit).

There is none. But there is bbwin:
http://bbwin.sourceforge.net/

This is compatible with Hobbit/Xymon and BigBrother.

I can attest to this..as long as you install it with administrator privs in server 2008 it works great.

Except 64-bit doesn't work, it installs except the reg keys, and even if you
manually create the reg keys to get the hostname, it will not use them. So
if you have a host with FQDN reporting in. It doesn't work.

This is the same for Win 2003 64-bit though. You need to use the old free
bigbrother client for that BBNT.

Mr Big has supported Windows 2008 since long before it was
released and is available in a 64 bit version. There is no need
to use the old Big Brother client.

Say what? I have BBWin 0.12 working on several Windows Server 2008
Enterprise x64 machines, both Full and Server Core.

Cheers.

BBWin on Win2k3 x64 worked fine for me. I think there was a small amount of
fiddling, but it was so long ago and so minor I forget ...

Guess I need to look again but as I said, it matters if you FQDN or custom
hostnames, as my experience with x64 2003, it doesn't work with anything
other than hostname only.

Never even heard of Mr. Big or heard it mentioned on this list (to my
remembering). Interesting.

For completeness, here is the BBWin portion of my setup notes:

Install BBWin:
msiexec /i BBWin_0.12.msi /passive /log bbwin-install.log
reg add HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node\BBWin /v "hostname" /d
"%COMPUTERNAME%.dept.domain.tld" /f
then copy/create an appropriate bbwin.cfg, any external scripts, etc
net start BBWin

Cheers.

Okay, thanks. I wasn't making the change in the Wow6432Node key but just the
basic Software/BBWin. I will give that a try on the next client. Is that
documented anywhere in BBWin that I missed?

Thanks.
