Purple status removal… or correct DNS tests

Hello folks,

I have started monitoring DNS tests on a server and It has never worked correctly (always red status):

- Ubuntu 8
- bind 9.x running in a jail environement.

I haven't been able to find the DNS test correctly explained… any advise will be welcome.

There is not really any good reason for this test not to work (as It works in a very straightforward way on all my other servers (which are not based on the same OS))…

--

As I couldn't find the solution and to avoid multiple (false positive) warning i have decided to remove this test from the "bb-hosts-dist" for that precise server. I am now seeing a purple warning that I can't seem to remove…

I have tried:

./bb localhost "drop server.name.com dns"

This hasn't solve my issue… SO can someone help me to:

1. Correctly configure DNS tests.
2. Remove the "purple" status for this test.

Thanks.

Ok So it seems that this command has succeeded // I have now a green status // but my DNS still can't be monitored.

So I just need to know what and how the server is testing DNS on a client host and where this test is located…
Because obviously it does not work for me…

Can the dns server resolve #1) it's own name and #2) it's own IP when
tested manually with host or nslookup? Locally? From a remote host?
That's all it really boils down to.

I generally test for soa records on authoritative zones:
0.0.0.0 ns2.example.com #noconn ssh ntp dig=soa:example.com,soa:example.net,soa:example.org

If those come back with a valid record, then I know that DNS is running.
