terabithia rpms and ntp

Hey JC, I just had an unfortunate issue when I switched my systems to chronyd. Because the Terabithia server RPMs have a hard dependency on the NTP packages, when I removed ntp to replace it with chrony...the Xymon server was uninstalled. Fortunately, this wasn't a critical system but since chrony is an alternate time daemon, it would have been nice if the RPMs didn't require ntp...or we could figure out a better way to install it without --no-deps. According to the xymonserver.cfg, ntp is supposed to be optional. Any thoughts on how to best deal with this? thanks =G=

I gotta ask, "why'd you do that?" What problem are you solving with the
switch to chronyd?
Is ntpd not working for you?
Are your hosts on intermittently-connected networks?

Do things because you should, not just because you can.

I was installing a server in AWS to try to get evidence for my network folks that the flapping I'm seeing on some of my networks tests is not in the AWS network (it's not just based on the last day's monitoring). I've not had an issue with the switch aside from Xymon. I was referring to https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/aws/keeping-time-with-amazon-time-sync-service/ when I set up the ansible plays many moons ago, While I could make an exception for the Xymon server, I was surprised that xymon was removed when ntp was removed. Since ntp is supposedly optional, just seemed a bit harsh. =G= On Fri, May 18, 2018 at 5:40 PM John Thurston <user-ce4d79d99bab@xymon.invalid>
