Has anyone tried any benchmarking (in a semi-scientific manner) of
Hobbit, be it message processing, file i/o, etc. etc.?

Not that I know of. But I would be very interested in the results
if anyone does.

My experience so far is that the primary bottleneck for Hobbit
is updating the RRD files to keep track of the trends data.
