Is there a way to "escape" host name strings, in bb-hosts, to allow, say, spaces, in host names/descriptions? joe a.

I don't think host names can have spaces. It must be alphanumeric plus a hyphen. http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc952 Josh Luthman Office: XXX-XXX-XXXX Direct: XXX-XXX-XXXX XXXX Wayne St Suite XXXX Troy, OH XXXXX On Sun, Aug 22, 2010 at 4:27 PM, user-8f41a3273532@xymon.invalid

If you're trying to get something descriptive on the display line for each host, see the COMMENT tag in the bb-hosts manpage. "Description" is the name of a field in the DESCR tag, but the contents go on the Info page, not on the main display. By default, Xymon wants to look up the host names in DNS (or at least using a resolver function), and thus they should be RFC-compliant.

Something like that, yes. Or, just the name changed, as there seems to be a space/formatting issue looming. But, I cannot seem to get either NAME: or COMMENT: to take effect. Obviously, I have not grasped the syntax from the man page. BTW, any hints on how to get list mail sent to me would be appreciated. I had to resort to to the archives to find this. Must be in digest mode, by default. And, thanks for the prompt replies. Feel free to reply direct to me, as well, for now. joe a.
