Confused with test settings!

All,

I'm still having problems getting the 'conn' status to show on my newly
added servers. I've been using the config report (that Hobbit so helpfully
gives on the webpage) to compare a new and an exisiting machine.

The exisiting machine has an entry in Network Tests for conn, whereas my new
one has no entries for network tests at all.

Question is this: How do I get an entry for network tests?

All network test are running on the Hobbit server, based on the entries
in the bb-hosts file.

It should normally be something like this:

10.10.10.10 somehost # some_tcp_test some_other_test

So, maybe you have a wrong definition / typo for your new servers in
your bb-hosts file.

Seeing the offending line in your bb-hosts would be helpful.

conn is done by default, unless you explicitly say not to. Try removing 'conn' from bb-hosts.

The existing servers have a mixture of nothing after the host name, some
have testip.

To get the basic ping result do I need anything beyond the hostname? Other
info is returned from the hosts ok.

can you ping the client from the server?

can you ping the server from the client?

bb-hosts entry needs : -

<dotted quad ip address> hostname

The hostname must be the same as the client reports, unless you use testip
in which case it will ping using the ip-address.

The hobbit server has this entry:

Does that point to any deficiencies?

From the hobbit server, are you ping'n by IP or by hostname?
I was under the impression that you needed a FQDN in bb-hosts

'hostname.domain.com'

I would put a space between the # and BBNET

Have a look at your bbnet-test man page - you can turn on various diagnostic
options to see why pinging certain hosts may fail

such as --report --dnslog=FILENAME and --debug

These may help!

Tried test ip and no joy....

The hobbit server has this entry:

192.168.4.61 IVRA1 #BBNET BBDISPLAY bbd testip
http://IVRA1/hobbit/

Does that point to any deficiencies?

Can ping in both directions, and I do get info back which fills up
other
columns, just not anything that will allow the conn column to display
an
icon (it just sits there with a - )
Can you post your corresponding bb-hosts entries?

This looks ok, but obviously something's messed up somewhere.

Could you try this on your Hobbit server:

1) login as the hobbit user
2) run the command
      ~hobbit/server/bin/bbcmd bbtest-net --debug --no-update FTV01
   and send us the output.

And check that the CONNTEST setting in hobbitserver.cfg is set to TRUE.
