Hobbit: Hobbitping/Fping
list Sanu Mathew
Hi All, I have a couple of linux servers which are behind a firewall and needs to be monitored. I have allowed the port 1984 for flow of data from the client servers to the hobbit server, and i get all the data fine. However, I do not get to see a green for "conn", all i see is a '-'. This i typically understand is the hobbitping or the fping utility. Do these utilities work along with bbtest-net or individually? And if Yes, which ports needs to be allowed and from where to where..? If not, which port does hobbitping or fping use? At this point the firewall is opened for normal ping i.e, hobbit server can ping the linux clients. Quick info on my network. Hobbit server ip - 192.168.50.100 Other Linux/Unix servers are in the 192.168.50.* network. Linux servers behind the firewall, have a 10.* ip assigned, which at the firewall is natted to a 192.168.50.* ip. (these are typically the DMZ servers) Any help would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Sanu

Do you have 'noconn' set for these hosts in the bb-hosts file ? If you don't, I would expect to see a red dot (if ping is not available). If you do have noconn set, just remove it ...

No, noconn is not set for these servers. But still what i get is a '-' and not even a red dot. On Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 11:48 AM, Buchan Milne

Then you have a "noping" on these lines in bb-hosts, or you're not running any network tests at all (rather unlikely, I think). Henrik

Hi Henrik, "noping" isnt mentioned in bb-hosts. network tests are running, as hobbit is able to monitor the other services. Does fping use a specific port? Is fping triggered by another program which uses a specific port? Are there any other things i could check from the server to ensure the conn entry comes green or red other than a '-' Regards, Sanu

Not sure if you solved this or not, but make sure you can have a conn flag in bb-hosts. If you already do, you might need to set the NET tag too (if you have set a BBLOCATION in hobbitserver.cfg). SebA
