Windows Service Checking

I'm using Xymon 4.3.27 server and WinPSClient 2.15.

I've put the following lines in the analysis.cfg file.
SVC "Netbackup Client Service"
SVC XymonPSClient

Xymon correctly matches up the XymonPSClient on the SVCS page,
but the "Netbackup Client Server".

I've tried it with/without the quotes in the analysis.cfg file.

What am I missing?

Thanks,

Dave

Hi David

Is the name "Netbackup Client Server" listed on the svcs page in the name column?

In Windows, services have a display name and a name. The display name is what is generally shown in Control Panel -> Services.

The name is what is listed on the svcs page in the left-most column (display name in the right-most) and I believe it is the name you will need to match.

Sometimes these can be quite different, for example, the service "SMS Agent Host" (displayname) has the name CcmExec.

Cheers

Hi

Fair enough – it must be something to do with analysis.cfg then.

The man page is a bit light on information in this area – have you tried \ (backslash-space) for the spaces?

Maybe someone else could chip in with the correct configuration.

Zak

Zak,

Using TaskMgr to view the Services, it 's listed as

"NetBackup Client Service"... Since this is our intranet, I can't just cut/paste info.

But using the Internet workstation I can use an example of how it looks.

This is the display in TaskMgr:

And listed in Component Services as:

I also have teh CcmExec service and find it ok.. I wonder if it's related to Services with spaces in

the name. As I've noticed there are very few of them.

Thanks,

Dave

Hello,
have you tried double clicking the service in services ?
Afaik, Service names with whitespaces are not allowed.

Lukas

That is correct, whitespace in service names are not allowed, but that rule is not enforced and there are services with names that contain whitespace. I learned that the hard way, which is why MrBig allows services to be identified either by their service names or by their display names.
