Hello Hobbit Gurus!
I have been trying to get iostat on hobbit, I am running Redhat Linux 5.2, I
am really lost. Do any of you have something that I can follow to get it
working? I would appreciate it.

Thank you,

Which version do you run on your server ?

You need this patch

http://www.hswn.dk/hobbiton/2007/01/msg00236.html

or better the new release candidate

3)added entry of [linux-iostat] in hobbitclient.cfg on machine B

4) My entry on bb-hosts is as following:

You can also take a look at the rrd files in the data/rrd/<server> directory.
If all goes well, you should see some iostat files in it.

You "tried" to get that patch, so did you applied it or not? Because you
really need it. I attached the patch that apply's cleanly together with the
allinone patch.

What you need to get iostat rrd files:

- the trends patch on the server so it understand trends messages
-> see the attached patch on my previous post

- the iostat script on the client so it sends trends messages
-> if you have the logfile on the client, the script is running fine, you
can try to enable the debug option in the script so you can see what's send
to the server.

If you do so, there should be some output in the logfile. You can also
execute the script on the command line and see what output it generates.

This is the output executed on my laptop:

Indeed, the data is collected and send to the server. Are you really really
really sure you applied the trends patch and restarted the hobbit server?

No errors on the server in log/rrd-data.log and log/rrd-status.log ?

Hi Stef,
patch -p0 < trends.patch
patching file hobbitd/rrd/do_trends.c
patching file ../hobbit-4.2.0/hobbitd/do_rrd.c
Reversed (or previously applied) patch detected! Assume -R? [n]

So this means I have applied the patch correct?

I checked on the /var/log/hobbit/rrd-data.log and log/rrd-status.log and I
see no error regarding iostat.

Yes. Strange, it should work.
Also, make sure to uncomment the debug line so it sends the trends messages to the hobbit server.
Can you also send me the full output of the logfile if you enable the debug option? You can send it to my mail directly if you want.

Henrik, please, release the new version so we don't have to patch anymore ... ;)

Hi Stef,

First of all, I would like to appreciate your effort to make this iostat feature working. Its really a great add on feature in hobbit system. Congrats !

In my configuration, it already shows the iostat read/write graphs per logical partitions ( sdc, sdd, sde ) in trends column but i cant see the graphs per partitions or mount points for example graphs for ( /u03, /u04, .. /u07 ). I am missing something in my config ?

I really appreciate to hear from all the hobbit admins .

Hi Stef,

First of all, I would like to appreciate your effort to make this iostat
feature working. Its really a great add on feature in hobbit system.
Congrats !

In my configuration, it already shows the iostat read/write graphs per
logical partitions ( sdc, sdd, sde ) in trends column but i cant see the
graphs per partitions or mount points for example graphs for ( /u03,
/u04, .. /u07 ). I am missing something in my config ?
No. The info is send to the hobbit by partition / disk, so it can only be graphed by parition / disk.

You can make ths by hand if you really want if you a put definition per mount point in hobbitgraph.cfg and point it to the correct partition. Or you can create a symbolic link and include the mount point name and use the same trick as the disk graphs to get the mount point.

I will try do this on my own box if you have the time today.

Thanks Stef

But I'm having a hard time how am i going to do the definitions per mount point in hobbitgraph.cfg. You may send me your sample scripts if you 've done it in your sample box.

Hi Stef,

It works ... i'm now seeing mount points in my iostat graphs. But, how
will I add this "disk iostat" in metrics reports instead of in trends
column.
Actually, we are submitting server performance graphs in a weekly basis.

Thanks a lot,

RaAL

Hi,

I'm referring to Reports -> Metrics Reports menu. In its current
options, there is ALL, CPU Load( Windows/Unix), CPU Utilization ( Unix),
Disk, RAM( Swap).
Is it possible to include Disk IOSTAT in the options menu.

Thanks for the support :)

I never used that report myself, but after a search, I found the file
web/hostgraphs_form. In this file, you find the definition of the form:
     <option value="ALL" SELECTED>ALL</option>
     <option value="cpu">CPU load (Windows/Unix)</option>
     <option value="la1">CPU utilization (Unix)</option>
     <option value="disk">Disk</option>
     <option value="memory">RAM/Swap</option>
     <option value="conn">Ping times</option>

You can add extra lines. The value must be a valid graph like iostat-disk.
Example. add the line
     <option value="iostat-disk">Iostat: disk</option>
And try the report.

Hi All,

In the new version 4.2.2, is it capable in monitoring OS/400 or Iseries servers ? If not yet , do we have any plans in monitoring OS/400 box in Xymon ?

Thanks,

Ai, an other hijacked thread .....

4.2.2 is the same as 4.2.0 + patches + rename to xymon.

I don't thinkg there is client for os/400 or iSeries. You can do remote
monitoring (ping, port check, ....).
I also think there is a perl bb commando that can be used on any system that
has perl installed.

Check out deadcat.net. There is a OS/400 client for Big Brother, I don't know how current it is (and since it is for OS/400 it is probably quite old, since the OS was renamed some time ago).
