alerts.cfg DURATION rule being ignored
list Clovis Otteson
Hello, Our Xymon server is monitoring about a hundred hosts and has been doing so nicely for years.? However DURATION rule is being ignored. I have several lines like this in alerts.cfg: SCRIPT <script location> <email address> SERVICE=replication DURATION>30m REPEAT=30d COLOR=red, purple Replication is a custom check. But the alert (scripted email) is being sent as soon as the check goes red, not 30 minutes later. Any suggestions as to why this could be? Using Xymon 4.3.30.

Is that all one line or two lines? Only asking because in the email it wraps it to two lines. Is it possible that it's another line in alerts.cfg that is being matched? You can run xymond_alert in test mode to see what'll match, e.g. /usr/lib/xymon/server/bin/xymond_alert --test host.example.com replication --color=red --duration=29 will show if you have any rules that are matching when the replication test for host.example.com has been red for 29 minutes. Thank you, but I think it must be something else. "Configuring Xymon Alerts" at https://xymon.sourceforge.io/xymon/help/xymon-alerts.html states "TEXT" is the default for FORMAT. Also the alert emails are successfully sent, just not being delayed. I checked the info page for the host for which I set the delay, and it shows that there is, as expected, a 30m 1s delay for this notification. However, this "delayed" notification is sent at the same time a non-delayed notification (to a different address) for the same host/service check.

Is the same recipient/service combination listed more than once and without a delay on the info page for that host? Screenshot of the alerting table from the info page might help.

Looks like there's 4 recipients for the replication check. Is the first recipient address the same as any of the others? They're blacked out so I can't tell. Other than that I'm not sure.

All the addresses are different. I think the problem lies elsewhere. Thanks for responding, though.

Be vigilant when opening attachments or clicking links.
