Hey,

i want to install hobbit on a SUSE Linux 11.0. Can you tell me where it would be best place to install it? (/etc, /usr/local)

Thank you

If you're going to install from source, it's safe to pick the default directory locations.

Any should be good. I have one running on SUSE 10.0 and have it in /hobbit
(not /home, not /usr/local .... just /hobbit). Works perfectly good for a
years now.

SUSE follows the Linux Filesystem Hierarchy Standard (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Filesystem_Hierarchy_Standard) - so /opt would be most appropriate. My install pre-dates this, and is in /usr/local/hobbit (was /usr/local/bb, for bigbrother).

I have hobbit home dir set to /var/local/hobbit in my multi platform environ. Different O/S have diff home dir location defaults. Also, the users can fill up their filesystem and hose your Xymon/hobbit activity in a heartbeat.

Having it at the same path on all hosts enables me to push out stuff easier as needed too.

(My configs are: SuSE 9-->10, HPUX, Tru64)
