Hi all,

Just finished my Hobbit log monitor; thought I'd share it all with you.
Since the hobbit-client currently doesn't support the msgs test, I
wrote this to eliminate the need for the old bb client.

You can download it, along with my other Hobbit/BB tools from:

http://www.nerdvana.org/eric/bbtools

Let me know if it blows up on you, or anything.

Cheers,

Hello,

I got a memory detection failed message on my hpux 11.00 clients. The
value of physical memory is 0% ! Swap memory is well detected.
What is the problem ? I got nothing into my logs and I've already set
execute permission on /usr/sbin/swapinfo... Could you help me please ?
Sincerly,

Thomas Seglard

Hi,

here is the results of the uname -s
on hpux 11.00 / 11i : HP-UX

on AIX 4.2 / 4.3 / 5.2/ 5.3 : AIX

on redhat as 3 (ia32 / ia64) : Linux

on redhat as 2.1 (ia32 / ia64) : Linux

on solaris 6 / 7 / 8 / 9 / 10 : SunOS

Is hobbit uses ``uname -s` to determine the os version ? Or another command ? If uname is used I think, I found why the vmstat graphs are not showing up correctly... But, I don't know how to correct this problem.
Sincerly,

Thomas

Thanks for the info but how hobbit distinguishes the different redhat versions ?? Because the output of uname -s is the same on redhat as 2.1, 3 and 4 (ia32 or ia64) ! Or in the do_vmstat.c there is a structure called rhel3. So, does that mean Hobbit never use this structure...?
Anyway, the output for hp-ux is correct but I got the unknown OS message in my log. Something goes wrong somewhere.
Thanks for your help and your quick answer !

Hi,
here is the results of the uname -s
on hpux 11.00 / 11i : HP-UX
on AIX 4.2 / 4.3 / 5.2/ 5.3 : AIX
on redhat as 3 (ia32 / ia64) : Linux
on redhat as 2.1 (ia32 / ia64) : Linux
on solaris 6 / 7 / 8 / 9 / 10 : SunOS
Is hobbit uses ``uname -s` to determine the os version ? Or another command ? If uname is used I think, I found why the vmstat graphs are not showing up correctly... But, I don't know how to correct this
problem.
Sincerly,
Thomas

Thanks for your help ! This is the solution...
Once again, answer was in the documentation and I don't see it... Sorry about that.

But with redhat, be careful !! redhat as 3 update 1 will not produce the same vmstat output that a redhat 3 update 3 !!! That's horrible... So, I'm writing here what os you have to indicate in order to have a good vmstat's graph under hobbit.

version --os switch used to launch hobbit's client

redhat 2.1 (ia32 / ia64)  --->  --os=linux22
redhat 3 update 1 (ia32 / ia64) --->  --os=linux the default one
redhat 3 update >1 (ia32/ia64) --->  --os=rhel3
redhat 4 update 2 (ia32/ia64) --->  --os=linux the default one
centos 4.2 (ia32) --->  --os=linux the default one

Thanks again !
Sincerly,

Thomas

OS detection on Linux systems ----------------------------- The client normally determines the operating system auto- matically from the "uname -s" output. This results in all Linux systems reporting as "Linux" - which causes the vmstat graphs to fail for certain types of systems: - Red Hat Enterprise Linux Should report "rhel3" instead. - Systems running Linux kernels 2.2.x (Debian Woody) Should report "linux22" instead. Hi all,

Just finished my Hobbit log monitor; thought I'd share it all with you.
Since the hobbit-client currently doesn't support the msgs test, I wrote this to eliminate the need for the old bb client.
You can download it, along with my other Hobbit/BB tools from:

http://www.nerdvana.org/eric/bbtools

Let me know if it blows up on you, or anything.

Cheers,
