OK guys, thanks a lot in helping me bringing up the Hobbit server up on my Linux (Ubuntu) machine.
Now I am on step two. I need to install the Hobbit client on my AIX machines. From where and how can install the Hobbit AIX client.

Should I download the source from: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=128058
and then compile it on my AIX servers? Is there a better and faster approach doing this?

Thanks!

You have to install GNU Make, but I was able to install the Hobbit / Xymon base 4.2.0 client pretty easily after that on AIX 5.2 and 5.3.

Thanks, Stef.

I downloaded the tar ball and extracted it on the AIX client in /opt/hobbit. I then started hobbit client with no issues.
Now am I all done or I still need to do more? How will I get disk/cpu/memory and other stats sent from the Hobbit AIX client to the Hobbit Server? Please advice. Sorry, if my questions are really basic.

Thanks,

Check out the config files in etc. Have you specified your hobbit server in
it ? And if you do, make sure the AIX hostname is specified in the bb-hosts
files.
You can also check the logfiles in the directory log.

 Hi,

There are some tips here : http://www.docum.org/twiki/bin/view/Hobbit/WebHome

You don't have to compile it, just launch it and add to the inittab. I've wrote a HOW-TO but it's in French.... It's working!

Sam

On the AIX client, I updated the file hobbitclient.cfg and put the IP address of the hobbit server in the line:

 BBDISP="X.X.X.X"

I also updated the bb-hosts file on the Hobbit Server and added the IP address and hostname of the AIX hobbit client.
Is there anything else that I should update?

Also, on which port does hobbit communicate through? Is it 1984? Is there any other ports?

Thanks,

I suppose you started the hobbit client? Check the logfiles for errors.

Only 1984.

Hi,

You have only the hobbitclient.cfg to update (BBDISP) and the bb-host on the Hobbit server.
I've got this in the bb-host :
X.X.X.X Hostname # bb-lvm TRENDS:*vmstat:vmstat1|vmstat8|vmstat-avm|vmstat-free-list

(You have to add bb-lvm extension in the client, and add vmstat graphs in the Hobbit server)

Look at your logs in the client,
