externals with a Linux client?

Hey all,

I have been using the externals with bbwin to run scripts I've created for custom tests, but I need to do the same with a linux client I have.

Any ideas how to run an external script with a linux client?

With bbwin, you just use the externals.dll and put your .exe path in the externals section of the xml config file and write your test result to the tmp directory for the hobbit service to pick up.

Thanks,

And, I did test throwing a file in the tmp directory on the linux client but it just sits there and never gets picked up by the hobbit client.

Can't find anything useful on the web...

You have to write a script that feeds the data to hobbit, and then add an entry to the $CLIENT/etc/clientlaunch.cfg file.

For example, our SAN pathcheck script entry looks like this:

---
[pathcheck]
        ENVFILE $HOBBITCLIENTHOME/etc/hobbitclient.cfg
        CMD $HOBBITCLIENTHOME/ext/alj.pathcheck
        LOGFILE $HOBBITCLIENTHOME/logs/alj.pathcheck.log
        INTERVAL 5m
---

Not to be contrary, but did you read the Xymon manual? It is
absolutely in there (that's how I learned). You can get there from the
menus on your display machine's website.
