yes,,external ip(192.168.9.104) is on the xymon box.in fact, extenal ip is the ip which is accessible from our desktop. An internal ip(172.29.2.227) is limited to only cluster's internal communication.since our desktops are in 9 n/w,we are able to access it. but 172.29.2.227 being an ip which is not directly rechable..hence the problem. It looks like this is hard-coded to use BBWEBHOST for the URL. Actually, I'm wondering why your link is using the IP address - it should have the hostname of the Xymon server in the URL. In which case, you just change DNS.

Then you need to ask for the hostname to be added to DNS. Either that or get people to add it to their workstations' host files.

You're missing the point - a hostname is just for human convenience.
There's nothing stopping you putting the hostname into the network DNS
so that it resolves to the "public" facing IP of the Xymon server.

i do agree, but the ip corresponding to hostname is not reachable from our desktop .It is totally different network.Hence we have aaranged other ip also from our n/w is given and we are accessing xymon thriugh that new ip only.but for internal communication of server and clients, xmon uses its internal network which is not accesible from our end directly.

Alerts use the BBWEBHOST environment variable to provide the link back to the Xymon web interface. By default (if it is not provided in hobbitserver.cfg), this is http://$BBSERVERWWWNAME. Ensure that the BBSERVERWWWNAME variable in hobbitserver.cfg has your externally accessible hostname or IP. Please see 'man hobbitserver.cfg' for more information. If you don't come right, you may want to provide some of the detail of your configuration (e.g. the values for BBSERVERHOSTNAME, BBSERVERWWWNAME, BBWEBHOST, BBSERVERIP ) and describe which values are which in your environment. Regards, Buchan
