Your client-local.cfg syntax is wrong. client-local tells hobbit what
to upload, hobbit-client tells Hobbit how to use what it uploaded. You
have the two files configured the same, which is wrong. Also, you don't
need anything on the client side if you're running Hobbit in the typical
manner. The client-local.cfg data is downloaded from the server to the
client automatically.

Try something more like this:

Client-local.cfg

[nj1db200pt]

file:/home/monitor/test

file:/var/log/

log:/var/adm/messages:4096

The default copies of all these files are commented heavily at the top
showing all this syntax.

Unless I'm mistaken, it usually only grabs the content for about 30 minutes after the last trigger. So, if you can make it turn red, you should see something, otherwise, I believe it will appear empty. It'd be nice if this were configurable.

HI,
   Thanks. It worked.

Is there any way to display contents of file or it displays only size, timestamp, file type, permissions. When I made following entry on client-local.cfg

it outputs

All,

I'm having problems with this as well. I'm able to get the following as
they are the defaults:

Conn

CPU

Disk

Info

Memory

SSH

Trends

I can't get the following:

Files

MSGS

Ports

Procs

I'm able to get them to work on the Hobbit server itself, but I can't
seem to figure out how to get the same information from the clients. I
installed the Hobbit client from the package and the servers see each
other. This is what is in the hobbit-clients.cfg file:

All the above files are in the location listed. I'm guessing that they
don't show up because of the settings listed.

This is what is in the "client-local.cfg" file (as well as the
defaults):

[wfs-bkp01-atl]

file:/var/log/

Both of the above files are located on the Hobbit server. If I read the
files right on the client side there is not anything that I need to
configure. I could be wrong about this.

Thank you,

Your client-local.cfg syntax is wrong. client-local tells hobbit what to
upload, hobbit-client tells Hobbit how to use what it uploaded. You have
the two files configured the same, which is wrong. Also, you don't need
anything on the client side if you're running Hobbit in the typical manner.
The client-local.cfg data is downloaded from the server to the client
automatically.

Try something more like this:

*Client-local.cfg*

[nj1db200pt]

file:/home/monitor/test

file:/var/log/

log:/var/adm/messages:4096

The default copies of all these files are commented heavily at the top
showing all this syntax.

Subject: RE: [hobbit] monitor files, log msgs,

Your client-local.cfg syntax is wrong. client-local tells hobbit what
to upload, hobbit-client tells Hobbit how to use what it uploaded. You
have the two files configured the same, which is wrong. Also, you don't
need anything on the client side if you're running Hobbit in the typical
manner. The client-local.cfg data is downloaded from the server to the
client automatically.

Try something more like this:

Client-local.cfg

[nj1db200pt]

file:/home/monitor/test

file:/var/log/

log:/var/adm/messages:4096

The default copies of all these files are commented heavily at the top
showing all this syntax.

Subject: [hobbit] monitor files,log msgs,

I have been trying to monitor files and messages.but no luck.

On server side I have edited following files and given entries

hobbit-client.cfg

    HOST=nj1db200pt

       FILE /home/monitor/test mtime>600 red

       DIR %^/var/log TRACK

       LOG /var/adm/messages WARNING COLOR=yellow

Client-local.cfg

     [nj1db200pt]

    FILE /home/monitor/test mtime>600 red

   DIR %^/var/log TRACK

   LOG /var/adm/messages WARNING COLOR=yellow

On Client side

    HOST=nj1db200pt

     FILE /home/monitor/test mtime>600 red

     DIR %^/var/log TRACK

     LOG /var/adm/messages WARNING COLOR=yellow

Do I have to edit any other files. or I am doing something wrong. I
can see any output. I can see only white icon.help me monitorl logs and
messages

Thanks
