All,

I have followed the last couple of ghostlist threads with interest as I
am having problems in that area, but naturally enough my problems seem
to be completely different.

I have servers listed in the ghostlist web page that most definitely are
in my bb-hosts file. The name is the same as is the IP address:

From the Ghostlist webpage:
ivp0.lon.dcn.colt.net	10.44.107.59	0:52

From bb-hosts:
# grep ivp0 bb-hosts
10.44.107.59 ivp0.lon.dcn.colt.net # ssh

This entry has been in bb-hosts for months and I have restarted the
Hobbit server a number of times since then, as recent as today in fact.
This server is definitely reporting back to Hobbit and I can see it in
the main Hobbit web pages. Here is the first few lines from its Info
page:
Hostname:	ivp0.lon.dcn.colt.net
OS:	SunOS ivp0.lon.dcn.colt.net 5.10 Generic_127111-03 sun4u sparc
SUNW,Sun-Fire-V240
Client S/W:
IP:	10.44.107.59

So this server is definitely in the config files, is reporting data
correctly and the Hobbit server is processing it, just for some reason
it's not processing ALL of it.

The ghostlist web page itself has 22 servers listed in it. Strangely
though, running the "bb localhost ghostlist" returns a much small list,
it only has seven entries and only the first one of them is in the list
that hobbit-ghosts.cgi produces. This first entry IS a valid ghost.

Can anyone off up suggestions as to why:
1) My ghostlist webpage list has such a large list of non-ghost servers.
2) Why the Hobbit ghost list doesn't match the bb one?

Thanks for your time,

I've noticed the same thing on my ghostlist for ages. Systems that are
working fine, in bb-hosts, reporting correctly.... still in the ghost
file, even after many restarts/reboots.

I gave up trying to figure it out. Since it doesn't affect anything,
it's one of those mysteries that just isn't worth investing my time to
solve. I'm not so obsessive that it bothers me that much. I'll be
curious to see if anyone ever figures it out, though. I'm still trying
to figure out some of the mysterious quirks of Hobbit that *do* matter.

An example, please ?

Preferably with the output from the command
   bb 127.0.0.1 "ghostlist"
followed by
   bb 127.0.0.1 "hobbitdboard host=HOSTNAME"
HOSTNAME being one of the hosts from the ghostlist, of course.

And a
bbcmd bbhostshow | grep -i HOSTNAME
would also be nice.

Can do:

$ bb 127.0.0.1 "ghostlist"
|10.44.107.110|1211978765
fra-pgw-test-1|10.249.8.20|1212133157
fra-pgw-test-2|10.249.8.23|1212133201

I won't display the rest of what you asked for as nothing is returned,
however you see here that the ghostlist returned contains three
machines, one with no name. The problem is that if I view the Ghost
Clients report generated by the Hobbit programs in my web browser the
list is much bigger, 21 servers, none of which are "fra-pgw-test-1" and
"fra-pgw-test-2". The servers that are displayed in the Hobbit Ghost
report all exist in my bb-hosts files and all appear elsewhere within my
Hobbit web pages. As far as I am aware since these machines appear in
the main Hobbit web pages they shouldn't appear in the Ghostlist... But
they do...

I think I have it, but first some history: The Hobbit installation I am
using was built and installed on a different Solaris Hobbit server. The
installed files were then put into a Solaris package, copied to the new
server and installed there. The new server has an IP address of
10.44.107.48 whilst the original Hobbit server has an IP address of
10.249.6.102.

Whilst poking through the source code for the Hobbit ghost report I
noticed that it had a --debug option. Running with that shows that the
Hobbit webserver is actually querying the old 10.249.6.102 IP address
instead of either the new, or local ones.

I can't find the old IP address detailed anywhere in my Hobbit
configuration files so it looks like the hobbit-ghosts.c program is
being forced to use the IP address of the original Hobbit server, rather
than 127.0.0.1 or 10.44.107.48.

I noticed in the cgi-bin/hobbit-ghosts.sh script that there is reference
to $CGI_GHOSTS_OPTS but that isn't set anywhere I can find. Maybe it
needs to be set in the Hobbit user's environment and maybe it could be
set to the IP address of my Hobbit server? I tried to pull that
information out of the hobbit-ghosts.c code but couldn't see if it was
possible or not.

Does this sound logical?

Further to my last email, I believe I have found the problem/bug/typo.

The following pathnames/lines are from my installed file locations but
you should be able to search/find them in your installed locations:

In /opt/hobbit/server/etc/hobbitcgi.cfg, line 47 looks like:
CGI_GHOSTS_OPT="--env=/opt/hobbit/server/etc/hobbitserver.cfg"

and in /opt/hobbit/cgi-bin/hobbit-ghosts.sh, line 6 the end of the line
looks like:
 bin/hobbit-ghosts.cgi $CGI_GHOSTS_OPTS

Changing hobbitcgi.cfg to:
CGI_GHOSTS_OPTS=

Makes it work correctly.
