Carl,

I'm currently sending events from XYMON to TEC (the previous correlation sever from IBM).
In the hobbit-alaerts.cfg I put these lines:
HOST=*
        SCRIPT /project/hobbit0/bin/tec_link.pl any REPEAT=30 FORMAT=SMS

This is script is triggered by each new alarm and old ones every 30minutes.
It's writing events in a log file in the format I want. This log file is read by a TEC agent.

Cordialement, Regards,Mit freundlichen Grüßen,

Hi,

That would be a solution - but we have 2 xymon-servers, both active, but only 1 used as primary - so I don't see how I could manage 2 logfile-agents on both xymon-servers.

Anyone else have another type of solution to this?

We used to use Netcool, and we would send snmptraps from Xymon to Netcool.

Hi Gautier,

I was trying not to promote EMC software over other vendors offerings, but we use EMC IONIX Service Assurance Manager
as our Manager of Managers. It does correlation and de-duplication like Netcool.

Re: [Xymon] Integrating Xymon into IBM Netcool/OMNIbus

Hi,

We used to use Netcool, and we would send snmptraps from Xymon to Netcool.
Currently we do the same, but with our own product.

Hi,

That would be a solution – but we have 2 xymon-servers, both active, but only 1 used as primary – so I don’t see how I could manage 2 logfile-agents on both xymon-servers.

Anyone else have another type of solution to this?

Carl,

I'm currently sending events from XYMON to TEC (the previous correlation sever from IBM).

In the hobbit-alaerts.cfg I put these lines:
HOST=*
       SCRIPT /project/hobbit0/bin/tec_link.pl any REPEAT=30 FORMAT=SMS

This is script is triggered by each new alarm and old ones every 30minutes.
It's writing events in a log file in the format I want. This log file is read by a TEC agent.

Cordialement, Regards,Mit freundlichen Grüßen,

Gautier BEGIN

Hi,

Do anyone forward alerts into OMNIbus - and how have you approached this?

Hi Carl,

I can try to answer 1/2 of the query. I had/have no access to NetCool and don't know what OMNIbus is so I hope this helps. In order to send alerts to NetCool in a distant data center I set up rsyslog, on multiple hobbit servers. We were limited to using snmp or syslog and rsyslog allowed me to peak at text files generated by hobbit. The setup was pretty simple, I only monitor the notifications.log file though.

It's been a while so I don't remember all of the details but I'll look at the config files today to see if I notice anything significant or tricky.

Hi Carl,

Attached text file with two simple config file details. IP addresses changed. It's quite possible that a portion of these config details came from this list, I really don't recall. Warning: There are no regular directives (/var/log/messages, and so on) in these config files but they can be configured.

In a nutshell, we just send data from a few hobbit servers to a 'main' hobbit server. This server then sends the data to netcool in some remote place, and to another local system for testing (used port 1985 for that bit). The output looks ugly to me, but it's what the remote wanted/accepted. The tag name hobbit: can be changed to whatever fits your needs.

rsyslogd is standard in some linuxes, not sure about building this on Sloaris but it should be possible. Be real careful with this, you need to consider your existing syslog needs.
