Hobbitd Client crashed

I've dug through the archives, but can't find anything that helps me clear
this issue.

We're running "Xymon" 4.2.2 on CentOS 5 and the crash was initiated when I
started trying to use BBWin 0.12 in central mode. Switching back to
individual mode still leaves it crashing all the time. I tried rebooting
everything and it didn't help any.

The core files that are generated don't seem to be pointing me anywhere
specifically, though I could be running the checks on those incorrectly.

We'd really like to be able to use the central mode of BBwin, so it would
be great to get this running without errors again.

Thanks for any pointers.

Yes, those errors are what is causing your yellow status.

And though you cannot see anything wrong with your bb-hosts file,
something IS wrong with it according to bbtest.

Unfortunately we cannot judge what is wrong though, since you did not
include it.

In many cases, it's because you added in your bb-hosts conf the tag "http"
instead of providing a full http URL like "http://myhost.com/";.
Check it at first, hope it'll help you !

This sounds similar to an issue I was having a while ago, and tracked it down to the client config file.
If I was monitoring services on Windoze machines, and had an entry
SVC "MyService" startup=automatic status=started color=red It was all good.
If I changed that to SVC "MyService" status=started color=red
It would crash and burn.

Are you seeing a hobbitd_client test under hobbit server?
Here is some more detail of what I saw.
http://www.hswn.dk/hobbiton/2008/09/msg00345.html

I have no idea if this bug was ever fixed either.

Good luck.

Vernon,

I suspected my svc line was causing some issues as there was a bit of
conflicting information on that, however I commented out all of those lines
and the issue persists.

The way this is behaving though it almost looks like xymon is failing to
send a green status when things are running. I say this because restarting
the server and service with the lines for central management all commented
out still leaves me with a purple status for hobbitd_client, but an updated
time on the page for the current or previous time stamp.

The "hobbitd_client" status must be dropped manually. It usually
does not exist, it is only generated when the hobbitd_client program
crashes. You need to send a "drop" request to remove it:

  bb 127.0.0.1 "drop myhobbitserver hobbitd_client"

About the crash itself, this points to a bug in the bbwin-handler
of hobbitd_client. I haven't dug into it myself, but perhaps the
bbwin folks will provide a solution (they wrote the code) ...

Henrik
