I changed the IP address of a gateway I was testing connectivity for.

I'm showing a red test fail now... At the old IP address.

I removed the gateway from the hosts.cfg file and restarted xymon

the gateway went away as expected.

I re-added the gateway with the new address.

the gateway came back as expected.? On the next cycle the connection test went red... With the old IP address.

I used this command to clear the data

./server/bin/xymon 127.0.0.1 "drop <gateway>"

restart xymon

test comes back red... With the old IP address?!

My xymon installation is 4.3.30 built from source and it's been running a VERY long time with very little issue.

What am I missing?

Bruce,

do you have any other than the standard Xymon checks enabled f?r your gateway, i.e. devmon snmp monitoring?
If you are running xymon for a very long time and you know your installation, my question is rather a joke for you ?
But every now and then i'm running in such problems also....

Regards
Christian

Thank you Kenneth for pointing out I needed to look at my local DNS.... I make changes this so VERY often that I'd forgotten about that.

It's now noted in my config files

Hi Christian,

I used to run devmon but it had a nasty habit of bloating up and becoming unresponsive.
I'm trying to get the native Xymon native SNMP monitor to work.? It's fussy.

And yes, my xymon actually started life as Big Brother back in 2002.? The instance has been around a LONG time and have to do little to it.? Kenneth reminded my about local name
resolution... It was in my /etc/hosts file.

There is now a note in my $XYMONHOME/etc/hosts.cfg to remind me.

Regards,
Bruce
