"Convert your rule in analysis.cfg from a glob to a regex :-

LOG %/var/log/messages.*.log "DIDDS"|  COLOR=yellow"
The file name is messages-YYMMDD.log   - what you have above seems to be
mesages.<something>.log  ?   and the pipe  ie "|" ?
