There doesn't seem to be any core dump files, and if I go to the hobbit
page, I can see the subpage headings, but no hosts are listed.

Did you change:
hobbitserver.cfg:BBSERVERIP="192.168.1.1"
Also, did you enable port 1984 in your firewall?
