Hobbit just uses the normal mail-setup on the server it is running on.
So that depends on what mail software you've got installed.

The short version is: If the command
    echo "this is a test" | mail user-a0d266b8f0db@xymon.invalid
runs and you receive the test message, then your mail setup is
working.
