Hi,

 
Central mode means that you set all your monitoring thresholds through the analysis.cfg and possibly client-local.cfg on the Xymon server.

 
In local mode you configure all the thresholds on the client.

 
Essentially, central mode is the standard Xymon way of doing things whereas local is more like the Big Brother way.

 
This is a fairly simple description but I'm sure someone will be along with the more complex version.

We just use it in central mode. Once you have installed it just change the BBWin.cfg file in C:\Program Files\BBWin\etc as below,

Then you just start the service and all the configuration can be done at the Xymon server.

 
There is some more information if you open the BBWin_en.chm file in C:\Program Files\BBWin\doc. There are also sample local and central config files in that folder.
