Try putting a line-break before the $MESSAGE. Like

$BB $BBDISP "status $MACHINE.$TEST $COLOR
$MESSAGE $id"

That didn't help.

OK, could you run these two commands:

   bb 127.0.0.1 "hobbitdboard test=amos fields=hostname,msg"
   bbcmd env | grep -i ncv

and send me the output.
