Why no host comments?

Having looked tried it, I decided I liked the default (show as tooltip on
the everything page, show in plain sight on the non-green or critical
systems pages) better; because with 27 columns of tests shown on my
everything page, horizontal space is at a premium. :-)

Clearly, others feel differently, which is probably why it's an option...

Bravo, Torsten!

Setting the "--tooltips=always" worked! I now see the host comments.

Thanks!

Hi David,

take a look at the XYMONGENOPTS in xymonserver.cfg.
I think you need to add ' --tooltips=never ' there.
- From the manpage of xymongen:

       --tooltips=[always,never,main]
Determines which pages use tooltips to show the description
of the host (from the COMMENT entry in the hosts.cfg(5) file). If set to
always, tooltips are used on all pages. If set to
never, tooltips are never used. If set to main, tooltips are
used on the main pages, but not on the "All non-green" or "Critical
systems" pages.

Howdy, All!

We're in the process of migrating our current Xymon 4.3.3 site to a new
host (Solaris -> Linux) and upgrading to a new Xymon version (JC's
Terabithia RPMs: Xymon 4.3.28-1.el6.terabithia<http:/
/xymon.sourceforge.net/>).
One of the wrinkles that has me stumped is that none of the hundreds of
host "COMMENT:" tags is appearing on the new server's pages!

Example:

On the old server an entry like this:

   x.x.x.x hwap142 # COMMENT:"Batch App Server"
// Displays a like this on the web page: hwap142 (Batch App
Server)
but the same line on the new server shows only:

   hwap142

---

All the associated test columns and colors are showing up just fine.
Aside from the missing "COMMENT:" values, host entries appear as expected.
Clue: for some reason mousing over the name of the host on the web page
reveals the missing COMMENT: text!

Help!? <smile>
