Thanks. group-only and group-except works like a charm.

NOCOLUMNS + bb drop does not work for me (the column disappears for a couple of minutes only). I don't get this at all because it's documented and people keep telling me this is supposed to work.

bb-hosts
page CLIENTS Hobbit Clients
142.78.43.171 opsappsl.lac-bac.gc.ca # NOCOLUMNS:files ctmoratst

then
# bb 127.0.0.1 "drop opsappsl.lac-bac.gc.ca files"

then wait 1-2 minutes for columns to disappear

then wait 1-2 minutes for columns to re-appear.

Look at these options for the bb-hosts file:

group-only COLUMN1|COLUMN2|COLUMN3 [group-title] Same as the "group" and "group-compress" lines, but includes only the columns explicitly listed in the group. Any columns not listed will be ignored for these hosts.

group-except COLUMN1|COLUMN2|COLUMN3 [group-title] Same as the "group-only" lines, but includes all columns EXCEPT those explicitly listed in the group. Any columns listed will be ignored for these hosts - all other columns are shown.

NOCOLUMNS:column[,column] Used to drop certain of the status columns generated by the Hobbit client. column is one of cpu, disk, files, memory, msgs, ports, procs. This setting stops these columns from being updated for the host. Note: If the columns already exist, you must use the bb(1) utility to drop them, or they will go purple.

Which one to use depends on whether you have a group of hosts that you don't want to show all values for, or if you need to do this on a host-by-host basis. Use "NOCOLUMNS" for controlling the display of individual hosts, and the "group" commands for groups.

How would you go about it? First, check out my last 2-3 posts on this topic. I really don't know what else to try except maybe a clean installation (which shouldn't make any difference).

I think you are better off to hide these columns than to try to get rid of the standard tests. They are harmless with default settings.

That didn't work. Here is my bb-hosts entry...

142.78.43.171 opsappsl.lac-bac.gc.ca # NOCOLUMNS:msgs,ports,files,procs ctmoratst

I made the change in bb-hosts, restarted the bb server (although not required I think) and then dropped the tests using the following commands.

 bb 127.0.0.1 "drop opsappsl.lac-bac.gc.ca msgs"
 bb 127.0.0.1 "drop opsappsl.lac-bac.gc.ca ports"
 bb 127.0.0.1 "drop opsappsl.lac-bac.gc.ca files"
 bb 127.0.0.1 "drop opsappsl.lac-bac.gc.ca procs"

They keep coming back and I'm getting scared ;-)

Benjamin

P.S. The ctmoratst works fine.

Try adding NOCOLUMNS:ports to the host in bb-hosts.

Hi, I'm having a problem with
    dropping a host's test.

I perform the following command
from the server (there are no output
errors or errors in the error
    log)...

 bb 127.0.0.1 "drop
    opsappsl.lac-bac.gc.ca ports"

Within a couple of minutes
the ports column gets dropped and then a
couple of minutes later
the column reappears. So the drop command works
ok but
    the settings do not stick.

I've RTFM'd and searched the web
for answers to no avail. Anyone have
any ideas?

    thanks
Benjamin
