I'm beginning to believe there is an erroneous tarball on a mirror out there somewhere.

I just went to Sourceforge for the first time, downloaded 4.3.0 for the first time, created an empty directory for the file, and extracted it.
The upgrade document AND the upgrade shell script are both missing.

I am going to store that file off and re-download from SF.

I haven’t run the upgrade script myself yet, but there is definitely a build/upgrade430.sh in the tarball I downloaded earlier today.
(The upgrade document is docs/upgrade-to-430.txt, not docs/upgrading-to-430.txt as I originally said.)
Did you download from http://sourceforge.net/projects/xymon/files/Xymon/4.3.0/xymon-4.3.0.tar.gz/download ? Seems unlikely, but maybe you’re getting a bad mirror or something...?

So it would appear that another script is missing from the final release as well.
In step 5 from the upgrade document:
 ~hobbit/server/bin/bbcmd ./build/upgrade430.sh
cannot be performed because the upgrade430.sh script does not exist.
It appears that there is yet some work to be done in the creation of a complete tarball for upgrade purposes.

Actually, if anyone has knowledge of where I can obtain this document, that would be excellent, as it's not in the archive.

  FYI...

Most significantly the rename from hobbit to xymon has been completed, so you should carefully readdocs/upgrading-to-430.txt before upgrading. You're probably also interested in the RELEASENOTES file.
